Teeth Grinding At Night Poses A Problem
icon1 Posted by Jason Stlotnik in teeth on 10 31st, 2009 | No Comments

People who have bruxism want to figure out how to stop grinding their teeth. Teeth grinding at night doesn’t seem too serious at first look but it is one of those things over time can do some serious damage. Everyone wants to have healthy teeth and if you suffer from bruxism and don’t do anything about it for 30 years, some real problems can develop.

One of the things that makes night time teeth grinding so hard to stop is that you do it in your sleep and most people are not even aware they are doing it. How do you stop something that you dont even know you are doing? People who grind their teeth during the night face this special challenge of curing a bad habit that they cannot even be aware they are doing.

If you do have bruxism, your dentist will most likely be the one to tell you because he will see the signs of grinding on the surface of your teeth. Most likely, your dentist will then recommend you get a custom mouth guard that will minimize the damage. Unfortunately, this type of mouth guard will not cure your bruxism but will only lessen the damage that is done to your teeth at night. Aslo, any custom made mouth guard your dentist will want to fit you for will usually cost between $500 to $1000.

Another option is to try to cure the problem yourself. Unfortunately, this may not be easy to do as there is no one single cure for all people. The reasons why people grind their teeth are very different for each person and so there is no such thing as a cure that will work for everyone. People grind their teeth for many reasons including stress, a nervous habit, teeth that are misaligned, or some other unknown problem. Identifying what is specifically causing your bruxism could take a while to figure out.

In the end you have a difficult choice: do you settle on the mouth guard or do you try to fix the problem once and for all? This is a difficult decision to make as there is no way to know whether you will be successful at stopping this habit. However, whichever route you decide to go, it is best that you get started right away to minimize the damage to your teeth.

Braces: How to Pick an Orthodontist
icon1 Posted by Roger Johnson in dental on 10 31st, 2009 | No Comments

Step #1 to possessing a nicer smile is to hire someone qualified to offer braces. Advice and treatment regarding non-aesthetic concerns may also be offered by an orthodontist. In the latter part of your life, you could suffer from chronic jaw pain and gum deterioration if your bite hadn’t been aligned properly. In many cases, patients will be referred by their dentist to a professional specializing in orthodontics. If you want to know the best office or orthodontist to call, one who can provide high quality care and teeth braces, this is the article for you.

The selection process for the right orthodontist can be tricky, depending on the circumstances of your case. Be reminded, however, that orthodontic treatment is not exclusive and it is also offered by other kinds of dentists. Certain patients, for instance, could only benefit from the expertise of a invisalign specialist and the use of clear braces. Invisalign is considered quite advantageous for clients in the adult range and this has made it one of the newest services offered by various cosmetic dentists. Avoid relying on professionals who are inexperienced in the kind of treatment you require.

If you’re on a quest for orthodontics, be sure that you don’t fail to inquire whether an orthodontist specializes in the treatment you’re interested in availing. Be sure to enquire as well regarding the kind of technology employed in the clinic. Patients who have been given braces for treatment will experience fewer problems wearing them, not to mention improved overall results, because of state-in-the-art technology. Another way to assess the quality of service of a particular office is by asking for before-and-after photos.

When interviewing the doctors and technicians involved with your case about mouth braces, you should consider how the rest of the staff may impact your case as well. You’d want the people you come in contact with comfortable to talk to, especially if your treatment is expected to go on for quite some time. When we talk about staff, we do mean everyone, like the doorman or the person at the front desk. In the end, you’ll have a far better experience if the people employed by the office are all courteous, helpful, and professional in all ways that count.

When shopping for mouth braces and you’re looking for the ideal orthodontist to provide it, the hours they keep are something else that could affect your decision. You need to make sure your free time coincide with the working hours of the office, especially if you’re asked to make periodic visits. You can also ask the staff how emergencies are handled. You may not think this type of treatment will warrant any sort of immediate attention, but there may be times when you need to see the doctor between appointments. And while you’re at it, be sure to ask about their SOP for handling urgent concerns.

As mentioned earlier on, taking pride in the beauty of your smile can only be made possible by a qualified orthodontist. Keep what you’ve learned here in mind the next time you search for a nice and well-qualified doctor capable of offering braces. An effective and trouble-free treatment shall be your reward for being careful in your choice of orthodontist.

Dental Implants – Suitable For You?
icon1 Posted by Matthew Diaz in dental on 10 31st, 2009 | No Comments

Dental implants have become a popular option in replacing lost teeth. Preserving the jawbone is one of the important functions of implants, which look and feel like real teeth. The overall value and permanency of implants make them preferable to other less expensive tooth replacement methods. This article offers five benefits to choosing dental implants and contact information for a top dental office if you decide that implants are the right choice for you.

Aesthetics are an important factor when considering implant dentistry. A beautiful smile is the product of healthy gums and teeth. Unlike other treatments, teeth implants aren’t easily dislocated they certainly don’t look out of place or ill-fitting. Keeping the overall facial structure intact is another function of implants. A sagging face is more often than not the result of shrinking jaws and tooth loss. Implants can stop this process so you enjoy a younger appearance for a longer time.

Individuals with dental implants commonly recommend their chosen treatment because of the substantial amount of comfort it offers. A shrinking jaw is nothing nice to look at and it’s what you may end up with when you persist in using dentures. Use of them is also accompanied with the perennial risk of placing too much pressure on the gum area, and that could consequently make your nerves feel tender or painful. If, however, you choose to go with tooth implants, then not even people with clear eyesight will be able to tell where natural teeth ends and where implants start because they fit like it’s always been there.

People treated with dentures must learn to stay away from a number of dishes for their own good. The only way to say goodbye to these prohibitions is to have implants from an implants dentist. In fact, as far as people wearing implants are concerned, the only rule is to eat whatever it is that appeals to you. Wearing dentures, in time, may seem like encountering one problem after another as besides dietary restrictions, you also have to put up with a palate-covering bridge. This device hinders you from relishing your food. To regain your appetite and eliminate all other troubles it’s causing you, consider having implants.

If you don’t avail of the services of an implant dentist soon, you might start experience trouble with your dentures like having slurred speech and mumbling. The clear and concessive way you speak may have once been your greatest asset, but it could easily disappear when your dentures start to slide. Ultimately, using dentures will limit your abilities to speaking and reduce you to a silent or mumbling person. Say hello to tooth implant and you can start rebuilding one of your greatest assets. By using implants, you spell an end for all public speaking trouble.

A daily cleaning routine and adhesion process is yet another thing that people wearing dentures have to take care of. If you dislike the regular maintenance and procedures associated with dentures then you need to seriously consider having implants. You save more money, time, and effort by getting rid of dentures and replacing it with implants.

There are few problems with tooth loss that cannot be alleviated by dental implants. Have this procedure and you’ll not only benefit from a beautifully preserved jaw but a great-looking smile as well. Speak with an implant dentistry consultant and learn more about how implants can help you.

It is recommended that you visit this site for resources on dental implants sydney. With this website you can get information on implants dentist sydney.

When Do You Have To Go To The Dentist
icon1 Posted by Wayne Truter in teeth on 10 30th, 2009 | No Comments

If you think that brushing and flossing alone is enough to keep your teeth and mouth clean and healthy, think again. If you think that you can manage to have a clean and healthy mouth without the help of a dentist, then what are dentists here for’

However, encouraging children to take care of their teeth is actually a good thing to do because it’s a good idea to start practicing personal dental care at an early age. Perhaps the most basic thing that almost everyone knows about personal dental care is brushing.

Brushing one’s teeth after every meal is considered as the most basic step for personal dental care. A lot of people may think that brushing one’s teeth is just plain brushing; what most people don’t know is that there is a proper way to brush one’s teeth.

The dentist will then examine the gums, teeth and other tissues surrounding the mouth. The joints of the jaws may also be included in the examination to check for the over-all health of an individual’s mouth.

Brush Your Teeth At Least Two Times A Day Although there are some people who believe that it is necessary to brush one’s teeth three times a day or after every meal, most dentists would recommend that teeth should be brushed at least two times a day.

There are even cases when dentist would discourage their patients from brushing more than two times a day, especially for those people who are experiencing discomfort from sensitive teeth.

A lot of breath mints and breath fresheners are available in the market today, offering instant fresh breath to individuals who are perhaps too busy to spend at least three minutes to brush their teeth.

Abscesses should really be discovered right away because it involves collection of pus surrounded by tissues that are swollen. If it won’t be treated right away, it might be a source for other complications.

Eating candies to hide the scent of what you just ate during your latest meal is definitely not a good idea.

The truth is, breath mints and breath freshener sprays are only good at masking mouth odors.

After cleaning, most dental hygienists will polish the teeth. Polishing of the teeth smoothens and cleans the teeth’s surfaces, removing annoying stains and making the teeth more resistant to plaque.

Simplest Yet Most Essential Brushing one’s teeth may seem to be the simplest and most basic part of personal dental care but it is one of the most needed things to do to achieve clean and healthy teeth.

Mouthwashes are made to enhance the cleanliness of your teeth, not to substitute tooth brushing. Simply gargling with mouthwash won’t thoroughly cleanse your mouth.

If you want to promote personal dental care, you should be the first one to have the initiative to go to the dentist.

You can’t achieve the best personal dental care if you just depend on yourself and your resources at home. Dentists are equipped with tools, machines and instruments that would surely make your teeth and mouth cleaner, fresher and better by using whitetooth paste.

Keeping Your Teeth Extremely Healthy
icon1 Posted by Wayne Truter in dental on 10 30th, 2009 | No Comments

Thanks to better in-office dental treatments and at-home care, more people find it easier to manage their personal dental care.

It takes just a few minutes a day for you to combat and prevent the spread of bacteria, plaque and cavities in your mouth. Simple tooth brushing and mouth care procedures can take your teeth a long way.

Simple Brushing Tips Brushing just the front of your teeth won’t do your teeth a lot of good. When you brush your teeth, don’t just focus on your front teeth just because you think that they are the ones more exposed to world.

You also have to brush your teeth along the sides and those located at the back of your mouth. When you brush your teeth, don’t be too harsh on your gums.

The best way to remove plaque and destroy its chances of building up is through brushing and flossing. Regular brushing and flossing is really needed so that the plaque won’t have the chance to accumulate and harden.

Don’t Be A Sloppy Brusher Most of the people have been taught the proper technique of brushing the teeth when they were kids.

However, as people get older, they tend to disregard the proper way of brushing and just brush their teeth sloppily. If you think that simply brushing your teeth all round and making bubbles is enough to get rid of the plaque and other food debris, think again.

Learn How To Floss Although brushing is considered to be the most important part in the personal dental care routine, it doesn’t actually have the ability to remove the plaque and food particles between the teeth, under the gum line or within braces.

Learn To Floss Your Teeth As most dental care commercials would say, brushing alone is not enough to ensure that your mouth and teeth is 100% clean.

General Tips About Brushing You need to brush your teeth at least twice a day. Perhaps the most important time to brush your teeth is just before you go to sleep because during sleep, the production of saliva decreases, making the teeth more vulnerable to the attack of bacterial acids.

It’s not advisable to brush more than three times a day because it may cause the gums to recede in the long run. When brushing your teeth, make sure not to make the strokes too harsh because it will also cause the gums to recede or bleed.

Visit Your Dentist Now that you already know the basic steps in maintaining a healthy set of teeth, it doesn’t mean that you can already skip visits to your dentist.

Brushing too hard will damage the ladle, which will also have the same damage to the teeth and gums. Don’t rush when you are brushing your teeth. Two minutes is the recommended time to adequately remove the food and plaque build-up on your teeth.

If you are one of the many people who don’t really give much attention to your teeth, don’t wait until you experience awful dental-related problems such as toothache, bad breath(halitosis) or bleeding gums. By using one of the best electric toothbrush’s on the market it will insure to help you maintain a healthy mouth full of teeth!

How To Achieve Dazzling Pearly Whites
icon1 Posted by Wayne Truter in dental on 10 30th, 2009 | No Comments

Most people nowadays are getting attracted to tooth whitening products because they want to have a million dollar smile just like the celebrities seen on television.

However, people who keep their teeth in tiptop shape are the ones who are known to be successful and responsible in their careers. Personal dental care differs from one person to another, but it all comes down to one important fact: the healthier your teeth are, the greater you would look.

Aside from the aesthetic value of healthy, good-looking teeth, they also help a person chew foods properly. Remember, for a person to have a good digestion, the foods that he or she would eat should be chewed properly. Having a good set of teeth also enables a person to speak clearly and confidently.

If you are not satisfied with the color of your teeth, the best way is to visit your dentist first and consult him or her about your dilemma. Your dentist will tell you about the effectiveness of over-counter-products or they may even offer to give you professional treatment.

Most celebrities actually prefer to undergo professional teeth whitening treatment because that way, their unique needs can be met. Be very careful in purchasing over-the-counter teeth whitening products because some of these may contain bleaching agents that can actually damage your mouth and gums.

In addition to that, do follow the instructions strictly to avoid experiencing adverse side effects.

Sinfully Sugary Sweet Bacteria are attracted to sugar stuck on your teeth like ants in a picnic. The bacteria that is attracted by the sugary substance left in your mouth after you eat candies or cake breaks down the sugar into acid.

However, it might helpful for you to know that its not just about the amount of sugar that you eat – it also involves when and how you eat sugary stuffs that determine the health of your teeth. And always brush after you eat with a soft tooth brush.

When you drink sodas or eat sugary foods throughout the day, the enamel of your teeth becomes constantly exposed to acids. Cough drops, hard candies, and breath mints are just some examples of the harmful sugary sweets that dissolve in your mouth slowly.

Dental professionals and experts suggest a 3-hour break in between taking food and drinks that contain sugar. Starchy or sugary foods eaten with a full meal is said to be less harmful to the teeth compared to being eaten alone because the increased production of saliva helps wash away the bacteria and sugar.

Eating sweet and sugary foods before sleeping is perhaps the most damaging thing one can do to his or her teeth because one does not produce a lot of saliva when he or she is asleep.

By brushing your teeth at least two times a day, you can break down the plaque and prevent it from building up to cause cavities and other teeth and mouth problems.

Being a responsible owner of pearly whites is not difficult. You just have to make sure that you don’t forget about your personal dental care amidst your busy work or lifestyle. And use a soft tooth brush

Great Bad Breath Tactics
icon1 Posted by Lance Baker in dental on 10 30th, 2009 | No Comments

I’m restating the obvious here, but nobody wants to have bad breath. Unfortunately, it’s something we can’t avoid. I’ve read stats that say that nearly half of all people suffer from it to some degree, and some obviously have it worse than others.

A lot of it has to do with your genetic makeup, meaning that it’s out of your control. However, the good news is that there are definitely some things you can do to curb the impact of this nuisance.

It surprises me to see that very few people know what a tongue scraper is, even though it could greatly benefit their situation. All you need to do is apply it toward the back of your tongue, simply pulling forward to drag bad breath bacteria off of your tongue.

Many people mistake the causes of bad breath, thinking that eating foods with garlic or not brushing their teeth often enough causes bad breath. While both of these things will definitely contribute to it, your tongue is actually the source of most bad breath.

It’s just as important to floss your teeth as it is to brush them. Think about what happens to foods that stay there for days without being removed. They’ll obviously form some really foul odors, and being inside your mouth, this will come through as bad breath.

You need to eliminate food from those hard to reach places. Floss as often as you can, especially after eating meats. You’ll definitely notice a difference, especially if you smell those meats after you get them out of your teeth (as gross as it sounds, it’s just proof of the fact that you need to floss).

Lastly, I’d recommend drinking a lot of water throughout the day. Staying hydrated activates your salivary glands, which are the best natural killer of bad breath.

Try these things out for a few weeks and I guarantee you’ll notice a difference. You’ll probably wonder why you never did them to begin with.

7. Over The Counter
icon1 Posted by Cody Scholberg in dental on 10 30th, 2009 | No Comments

Over the last 20 years, many retail stores have sold teeth-whitening products. They’re extremely popular. Dental hygiene companies are all racing to have their own particular teeth-whitening products. This can make it extremely difficult to understand what exactly is going to work and what doesn’t. With all this good marketing, it is hard to know exactly what most people are experiencing. In the end, everyone needs to choose something that is safe and also they need to do their own research.

Popular teeth whitners are: gels strips rinses tooth gels applicator pens

Is There A Difference?

When teeth-whitening products came on the market 20 years ago, many people were worried that it would damage their teeth. They’re worried if they did something so easy, it would have long-term effects. Before that, the only methods available or through the denist. Cosmetic dentists were very good at administering these procedures and everyone knew that there are dangers involved. Naturally, it took a little bit before people were able to trust these brands. Now everybody knows that you can use a teeth-whitening agent with little or no problems.

Activation Of Ingredients

In the past, the kinds of products available for teeth-bleaching or similar to those found in a dentist’s office. The difference was that these chemicals had a much lower concentration of active ingredients. One other major difference is that no heat was applied when you use something at home. You can reduce some of the stains on your teeth, but you’re not exactly getting the same results as a dental office. It would take some time before these things moved up to speed. When you buy something over the counter, it is important to follow the directions. If you do not you can cause serious damage to your teeth in the long term.

Methods

Most teeth-whitening products involve a gel. For this reason, it can be confusing when there are so many different prices available. One of the main difference is is between a mouth tray and an application pen. Because the pens are newer, they’re being sold for more money. However, over time, this price will reduce. Some people find that they need the application pen because they do not have time to clean their teeth or whiten them otherwise. They also might have a problem with teeth alignment and find having a tray to be next to impossible.

Invisalign: A Run Through
icon1 Posted by Michael Owens in dental on 10 29th, 2009 | No Comments

With the most recent updates in the field of orthodontics, Invisalign has become very popular. Instead of old-fashioned metal brackets, why not go for clear braces, when they can straighten your teeth and look good at the same time? This method of teeth straightening works just as effectively, while not being so prominent. People around you may not even notice you’re undergoing treatment. The following information will reveal how Invisalign works and provide contact data on professionals knowledgeable in this field.

The first thing a Invisalign specialist will do is get precise bite impressions of your mouth. The bite impressions can be utilized to create PC images to help the specialist determine the alignment changes that need to take place. From these PC images, a orthodontist can develop one or more appliances that will gradually straighten your teeth. You have to put on each tool for approximately 2 weeks before you can move on to the next appliance. The sequence of tools function slowly to align teeth to their correct places.

Orthodontics usually offer Invisalign in their clinics. Furthermore, there are a several cosmetic dentists eligible in this procedure. To locate the right doctor for your alignment needs, ask someone you know who has had invisible braces. This will help you in your prowl for an experienced and professional orthodontist. You can also try and get a cosmetic dentist referral from your trusted family dentist.

In most cases, Invisalign braces will take about as long as the traditional metal braces, and will provide the same results. However, in addition to the aesthetic desirability of Invisalign, there are other advantages to this method as well. These special corrective appliances can be removed for eating and brushing, unlike metal brackets that are adhered directly to the teeth. What this means for you is that you can enjoy foods that would most likely need to be restricted if you had metal braces. This also means that cleaning your teeth will be a breeze!

Apart from these times though, wear the braces 24h per day for the best results. Put on the appliances most of the day and you’ll enjoy shorter treatment times altogether. Fact: 20-30 corrective appliances may be applied for the length of the treatment. Note that the overall expense of your procedure is largely affected by how many appliances were created and used for you. Most wearers find it a bit painful when they put on the next appliance. Don?t worry about this because it’s a normal and short-lived occurrence.

Get in touch with a professional orthodontist or cosmetic dentist to know more about Invisalign. You can also get in touch with the professional clinic mentioned below. Straightening your teeth does not necessarily mean having metal braces.

The Little White Lies About Teeth Whitening

Little White Lie #1

The Lie: The best way to get whiter teeth is to use whitening toothpastes.

The Truth: No one would argue that you shouldn’t brush your teeth regularly and whitening toothpaste certainly couldn’t hurt. Brushing your teeth is vital to the health of your teeth as well as being a basic tenet of good hygiene. However, the ingredients in whitening toothpastes just don’t spend enough time in direct contact with your teeth to provide the kind of results that people tend to believe that they have.

Your saliva tends to wash off the whitening agents from your teeth, which means that the whitening agents spend only a minimal amount of time in contact with your teeth. It also needs to be noted that the whitening agents in these toothpastes are generally present in extremely low quantities to prevent them from causing irritation. While whitening toothpaste is a great idea on paper, the reality isn’t as wonderful as we’d all like to think.

Little White Lie #2

The Lie: Having your dentist whiten your teeth is the best way to get a brighter, whiter smile.

The Truth: Yes, it is true that your dentist can help you to get whiter teeth. However, you don’t have to go to your dentist to get the same effect. The whitening agent which your dentist uses is almost invariably either Carbamide Peroxide or Hydrogen Peroxide: the same whitening agents used in do-it-yourself tooth whitening systems.

How effective these peroxide tooth whitening systems are depends on two things: How high of a concentration of peroxide is present in the whitening gel and how long this product spends in direct contact with your teeth.

You can get the same results by using a whitening solution with a high concentration of peroxide for a short time (this is the general rule with a whitening procedure performed by a dentist) or using a whitening solution containing a lower concentration of peroxide for a longer time (the way that at home teeth whitening systems usually work).

Either method produces the same results, though there is one factor which differs significantly: the cost. You’ll pay four to eight times as much to have a dentist whiten your teeth as you would to whiten them using an at home teeth whitening system. Since you can get the same results at home with a much smaller price tag, it’s no surprise that an increasing number of people are starting to choose at home tooth whitening over a dental procedure.

Little White Lie #3

The Lie: Every tooth whitening product works equally well.

The Truth: The quality and the efficacy of different tooth whitening products varies greatly, as do the methods of application. Some of these products work better than others and some really can’t be said to work at all, if the truth is to be told.

Where these products differ is in the whitening agents which are used. Different products may use one or the other of the two most common whitening agents – but the real difference is in the concentration of these agents, which is what really separates an effective product from one which doesn’t get results. Before you choose an at home whitening product, you should examine the available alternatives, keeping in mind what type of staining you’re seeking to reverse and how severe this staining is.

Little White Lie #4

The Lie: Bleaching your teeth damages the teeth and the gums.

The Truth: There is no risk of damage to your teeth or gums from using tooth whiteners. The whitening gel is applied directly to your teeth, where the whitening agents oxidize the organic deposits which cause staining. While it doesn’t cause any damage to your teeth or gums, it is possible to have some sensitivity in your teeth following the procedure; however, this is only a temporary effect. You can reduce this sensitivity by reducing the amount of time that the whitening gel is in contact with the surface of your teeth.

It’s possible that these whitening agents can irritate the gums, but this is typically due to poorly fitting whitening trays that cause the gums to come in contact with the whitening product. For this reason, it is highly recommended to use at home whitening systems that use custom whitening trays.

Little White Lie #5

The Lie: Using whitening strips is the best way to get whiter teeth.

The Truth: There’s that word “best” again. However, it is not the case that whitening strips are the best, or even among the best methods of tooth whitening. The problem is that no two people have the same teeth, meaning that a whitening strip can’t conform to the surface of your teeth perfectly. Grooves and depressions in the teeth aren’t affected and even in the best case scenario, a whitening strip can only get the front of your teeth. You’ll get uneven whitening and very unattractive “stripes” of stained teeth – something which can actually look worse than before you started using the strips!

Little White Lie #6

The Lie: Thermoform trays are cheaper and work just as well as custom whitening tray.

The Truth: Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Just like whitening strips, these trays don’t provide a perfect fit for your teeth; it’s like trying to wear dentures made for someone else. A custom-fitted whitening tray, however, will conform to your teeth and produce even whitening as well as reducing the potential for irritation if the gums since they reduce the amount of whitening gel which can leak out.

Little White Lie #7

The Lie: Paint-on tooth whiteners are the best at home tooth whitening products since they’re the easiest to use.

The Truth: The paint-on whiteners are definitely easy to use, but unfortunately they’re not effective. They have the same fatal flaw as whitening toothpastes. Your saliva washes away the whitening agents, meaning that the whiteners aren’t left in contact with the surface of your teeth for a long enough time to do much, if anything to whiten them. The whitening agents in these products is also present in a very low concentration so as to prevent irritation – so even if they did spend more time in contact with your teeth, they are of very little use. At best, these paint on tooth whitening products leave you with very limited whitening results and have an uneven, unnatural look.

There are other products of this type which don’t really whiten at all, being nothing more than a cover-up which does nothing to remove stains.

Little White Lie #8

The Lie: Teeth whitening systems which use electroluminescence in conjunction with a whitening gel work better than systems which only use a gel because of the high-tech light technology activating the ingredients of the gel

The Truth: These products are nothing new; what they are is ineffective. The electroluminescence used in these products don’t do anything except for look pretty. There is no added effect to these products by virtue of this light and it’s not necessary to remove staining and get whiter teeth. This is a marketing ploy, plain and simple.

Little White Lie #9

The Lie: Tooth bleaching produces the same results for everybody.

The Truth: Every individual is different and so are their teeth; including their staining. Some stains are easier to bleach than others. Yellow stains are the easiest to remove, followed by brown staining. Teeth which are stained to a grayish shade are the most difficult to whiten by the use of a bleaching procedure.

Little White Lie #10

The Lie: Swallowing tooth whitening gel is harmful

The Truth: There is about a 100% chance that you’ll swallow at least a little bit of tooth whitening gel regardless of which tooth whitening system you choose. It’s not harmful, though it does have an odd taste.

Dentist Helps You Save And Fix Your Chipped Teeth

Even if you follow the best oral hygiene practices, your teeth can still be damaged. One of the commonest damages that may happen to your teeth is a chipped tooth. Good thing that cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry now have numerous ways by which to handle this issue. Following is a guise on what your dentist can do for you in case your tooth gets chipped.

Treatment can vary depending on how bad the damage is, but one of the very first things that your dentist will do is to spot the reason behind the chip, and take x-rays of your teeth. It is simpler to repair the tooth if the x-rays show no symptoms of damage to its root and if you do not feel any agony as a consequence of the injury. Your dentist may even endorse no treatment in this example. However usually, dentists treat minor chips with veneers to get rid of jagged edges and give the tooth a smooth and natural appearance.

If the damage is relatively big and if you feel discomfort in the chipped tooth then you could need a crown. This is a tooth cap that provides protection to your damaged tooth and also gives it a better appearance. An alternative way to treat bad chips is to fill it. The process is similar to that which is performed on teeth damaged by cavities, and the filling can be made to match the appearance of the teeth.

In case the x-ray results show damage to the root of the tooth, a correct may not be advisable. Your dentist may require extraction of the damaged tooth and its subsequent replacement. In a similar fashion, if the chip happens to an existing crown, filling, or veneer then you should have it replaced. What is important is that you immediately see your dentist whenever you suffer from a chipped tooth, especially if you feel agony thanks to the damage.

It’d be best if you might get to your dentist within an hour of the accident and bring any part of the tooth that you can find.

How To Look After Your Teeth
icon1 Posted by Wayne Truter in dental on 10 28th, 2009 | No Comments

The primary aim of personal dental care is to prevent cavities from forming in the teeth. In order for you to prevent cavities and maintain a healthy set of teeth, you need to remove plaque, a transparent layer of bacteria that stays on the surface of your teeth.

Some effective ways to prevent plaque from forming is to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. Brushing your teeth will help stimulate your gums and in turn keep them healthy and less susceptible to gum diseases.

They will also help you maintain extra clean teeth and they will also teach you the proper ways of brushing and flossing. They can even demonstrate it to you so that you can really see how it is done.

Now do you realize the importance of maintaining a healthy set of teeth? If you do, then it’s high time that you give a little more time for your personal dental care.

There are anti-tartar toothpastes and mouthwashes available in the market today which can help prevent tartar formation. Another great tip for preventing the formation of tartar is brushing the teeth located near the salivary glands. For individuals that seem to have teeth which are sensitive to pressure, cold and heat, there are toothpastes specially made for sensitive teeth.

Most dentists would recommend that brushing the teeth at least 2 or 3 times a day is enough to maintain the cleanliness of the teeth and mouth.

If you seem not to be satisfied with just merely brushing, you can actually floss (now you can do this after every meal, just make sure you know the right way of flossing or you’ll still end up having gums that bleed) or gargle some mouthwash.

Have A Tongue Cleaner If you think that brushing and flossing alone is enough to help eliminate, manage and control the halitosis-causing bacteria in your mouth, think again!

Sure, they can give you instant fresh breath that can probably last for a few hours, but when you look at your mouth through a microscope, you will really be disgusted and appalled by all the bacteria and food debris that can be found in your mouth and in between your teeth.

Simplest Yet Most Essential Brushing one’s teeth may seem to be the simplest and most basic part of personal dental care but it is one of the most needed things to do to achieve clean and healthy teeth.

You see, in order for you to prevent cavities, you need to brush off the plaque stuck in your teeth brought about by the food and beverages that you ate and drank.

Brushing regularly can also save you a lot of unwanted trips to the dentist. Remember, breath mints and breath freshener sprays won’t help in getting rid of the bacteria that causes plaque to build up in your teeth.

If you want to have a nice set of teeth without having to undergo awful toothaches and bad breath, take the extra mile to spend time for your personal dental care routine.

What is Tooth Whitening?
icon1 Posted by Jason Myers in teeth on 10 26th, 2009 | No Comments

Tooth whitening is precisely what is defined – a procedure that removes the stains that occur when we take in food and fluids and which whitens tooth enamel. Tooth whitening in one form or another has been around for a very long time. Before the invention of toothpaste, people would use bicarbonate of soda, salt and other different home remedies to clean their teeth and keep them looking white. Latest procedures of keeping teeth clean and white are continously developing. However many of the more common methods have been around for some time and are quite safe for most people.

It is true that no matter how careful we are when it comes to brushing and flossing our teeth, ordinary toothpaste is is not enough to remove of the yellow stains on our teeth. When well known individuals would like to undergo teeth whitening, they will go to an costly cosmetic dentist, but you can undergo teeth whitening done at most dental clinics these days.

If you speak to your dentist then you will possibly find that there are a wide range of procedures for removing the stains and discoloration affecting our teeth. The dentist will probably have a a good procedure that he or she can advocate to concerned patients, once once the available procedures are properly discussed.

Dentists will still give a scale and polish as they have done for many years but some tooth whitening products will outlive a scale and polish and make your teeth looking whiter than ever before.

If budget is a constraint of undergoing teeth whitening thru your dentist then you can tap available teeth whitening products on the market that are designed to be used at home. Talk to your dentist if you have sensitive teeth since some of the products available may be unsuitable for you.

Warning! Some of the home teeth whitening products don’t worth your time and money. I have tried 7 different products that promised fast and easy solution and I can only recommend 2 of them! So if you’re ready click to visit our best teeth whitening toothpaste review and comparison page!
